Vision Health

Our healthcare services reach over 425,000 people in over 1,744 villages.

Take a moment and imagine this: a child who has lived in darkness suddenly seeing again. The very first second is a rush of colour—bright, breathtaking, almost unreal. Shapes, light, and familiar faces bloom into view like a world being painted in real time. A beauty rediscovered. A quiet miracle unfolding before their eyes.

That is the story of our Vision Program, built on a simple belief: no child should struggle in school or suffer preventable visual impairment just because of where they were born. Our work combines public health, clinical care, and community outreach in a structured model that ensures a child is supported from the initial screening through the final stage of treatment. It is estimated that about 40% of childhood blindness could be prevented or managed if children had access to appropriate eye-care services.

Our program operates through a four-step model designed to identify vision problems early, deliver timely treatment, and connect complex cases to specialized care.

Every time a child puts on glasses for the first time and smiles in disbelief, or a parent says, “My child can see again,” we are reminded that your support is changing lives in ways that numbers alone cannot capture.

Thank you for standing with these children, their families, and our vision health teams. Your partnership continues to bring light and possibility to thousands of young lives.

144,242 Children screened for vision since 2020

Many factors contribute to a child’s ability to perform in school; good vision is key. Children’s eyes are constantly in use in the classroom and on the playground. When their vision is not functioning properly, their education and participation in sports can be hampered.

Over 75% of visual impairment results from preventable causes. According to the Kenya Ministry of Health report of October 2019, of the 7.5 million Kenyans who need eye health services, only 21.3% are able to access eye health from either public or private facilities. Furthermore, interventions targeting child eye health associated with schooling and development have been lacking.

HopeCore is screening the entire school district for visual impairment. We have identified and partnered with DOT eyeglasses to provide refractive error correction with eyeglasses free of charge. In addition, children who need specialist review, medications, prescription glasses, and surgeries receive them, fully paid for by the organization.
